A Billion Monkeys Can’t Be Wrong

Appearance on HackerTV

Last Thursday I went down to justin.tv’s offices to give a talk as part of their HackerTV series. My talk, titled “Syntax [Does|Doesn’t] Matter” or “If you take out the parentheses, will it still be Lisp?”, covered why it’s important for programming languages to provide ways to create syntactic abstractions (i.e. macros) and explored some of the reasons that hasn’t happened yet outside the Lisp family of languages. If you missed the live version you can watch it archived: part 1 and part 2.
